Pharmacokinetics Modelling and Analysis of Drug Delivery

2017-9-15

Project: Pharmacokinetics Modelling and Analysis of Drug Delivery

Project Content:
Pharmacokinetics describes how the body is effected by a specific drug or compound; including how the compounds are adsorbed, bio metabolized, and excreted from the body. Pharmacokinetic properties of chemicals are affected by the route of administration and the dose of administered drug. Models have been developed to simplify conceptualization of the interactions between an organism and a chemical substance. The model outputs for a drug can be used in industry (for example, in calculating bioequivalence when designing generic drugs), or in the clinical application of pharmacokinetic concepts. Clinical pharmacokinetics provides helps to inform performance guidelines for effective and efficient use of drugs for human-health professionals.

MATLAB is a multi-paradigm numerical computing environment and one of the most popular scientific programming languages. MATLAB allows matrix manipulations, plotting of functions and data, implementation of algorithms. MATLAB has over 2 million users across industry and academia. MATLAB users come from various backgrounds of engineering, science, and economics.

This course will introduce both the pharmacokinetics and MATLAB programming and assist the students to apply the MATLAB to building and simulate the pharmacokinetics models.

Project Purpose:
1. To learn school physics and math, to introduce the basic calculus and differential equations.
2. To provide the basic knowledge of pharmacology and drug metabolism and to introduce the fundamental pharmacokinetics models for the student to solve.
3. To introduce the MATLAB programming.
4. To understand the scientific English terms and to improve English speaking and writing skills.

Major:
Math, Physics
